Celebrate your certified project
Certification under any of CAGBC’s standards or rating systems demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and should be celebrated. Let us help you understand how to refer to your project’s status accurately. In this section, you’ll find brand guidelines and tools to support your marketing efforts. Contact our marketing team to address any questions.
Zero Carbon projects
Earning Zero Carbon Building Standard certification is a significant achievement. Projects undertaking ZCB Standard certification demonstrate climate change leadership and an openness to innovative approaches.
It is important that projects clearly identify which standard they are pursuing, and at what stage they are at in the certification process. Review the brand guidelines on how to properly refer to registered and ZCB-Design or ZCB-Performance certified projects.
Registered projects should never be referred to as “certified.” Registration indicates a commitment to certification, but projects cannot legally be referred to as certified until an official notification is received.
Marketing opportunities
Certified ZCB projects can request a certificate marking their achievement. For ZCB-Performance projects, a certification mark that indicates the year of certification is available, and applies to a defined 12-month period of operations. For ZCB-Performance you must refer to the year of operations for which certification was earned in all messaging. You must maintain certification to continue to refer to the building as ZCB-Performance certified.
CAGBC provides support to projects looking to share news of their certification. Contact our marketing team for information on press releases and securing a CAGBC quote. Promotional decals for ZCB-Performance projects are available from Eclipse Awards. You can also build out your project’s description in CAGBC’s green building database, or submit a case study for consideration on CAGBC’s Showcase pages.

LEED projects
Earning LEED certification is a milestone to be celebrated as it demonstrates a strong commitment to decreasing environmental impacts and improving human well-being. To ensure accuracy, it’s important to understand the correct way to reference your LEED registered and LEED certified projects. Review the brand guidelines on how to properly refer to registered and certified projects.
Registered projects should never be referred to as “certified.” Registration indicates a commitment to certification, but projects cannot legally be referred to as certified until an official notification is received. Registered projects should never be referred to as “certified.” Registration indicates a commitment to certification, but projects cannot legally be referred to as certified until an official notification is received. There are four incremental levels of certification: TRUE Certified, TRUE Silver, TRUE Gold, TRUE Platinum. Once a project achieves TRUE certification, the TRUE certification mark appropriate to the year and certification level achieved can be used to represent the project’s achievement.

Brand infringement
Trademark and copyright infractions serious offenses that erode the value of a brand. Projects that are not officially registered through either the USGBC or CAGBC cannot refer to these trademarks under any circumstances. Certification cannot be achieved without registration, review and official approval of a project. Projects that do not comply with registered trademark guidelines may face legal action.
