- LEED v5
The CAGBC is pleased to celebrate with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) on the recent member ratification of LEED v5, clearing the way for a launch of the new version later this spring. The USGBC membership recently voted overwhelming in favour of adopting of LEED v5 for Building Design and Construction, Interior Design and Construction, and Operations and Maintenance.
Member ratification is the latest milestone in a multiyear development process led by hundreds of volunteer leaders serving on LEED committees, technical advisory groups and working groups with input from stakeholders across the global building industry.
Canadians joined in this process through:
- Participating on CAGBC committees offering about 500 comments on the public comment drafts.
- Contributing on Future of LEED stakeholder sessions.
- Select CAGBC members directly sitting on USGBC committees.
Thank you to everyone who provided input, ensuring that LEED can continue to be a transformative tool for the Canadian industry.
Celebrating Canada’s LEED legacy and the road ahead
The member ratification coincides with the 25th anniversary of the public launch of LEED, a journey that Canada has been part of since our first Canadian certification in 2002. Now over 6,000 Canadian LEED certifications later, CAGBC is proud to remain the home of this rating system in Canada as we embark on the next evolution of LEED.
LEED v5 provides a framework for how the built environment can tackle some of today’s most pressing challenges to our health, climate and communities. It provides a pathway for buildings to make meaningful contributions to decarbonization, quality of life, and ecological conservation and restoration throughout their life cycles—from design and construction to operations and maintenance—demonstrating leadership to all stakeholders.
LEED v5 is expected to be released later this spring. Join us for the formal Canadian launch at Building Lasting Change in Vancouver, June 18-20, where we will hear from USGBC and CAGBC staff, and our committee members, on the new approaches in LEED v5.
