The Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC) congratulates the Liberal Party of Canada on its re-election and looks forward to continued collaboration in advancing efforts in sustainable development. Green building drives innovation, promotes economic growth and increases the quality of life of Canadians.

We commend the Liberal Party’s commitment to provide over $25 billion in financing to innovative Canadian prefabricated home builders through “Build Canada Homes.” This initiative closely aligns with CAGBC’s recommendation to boost investments in cost-effective, scalable technologies and materials that drive greater affordability and sustainability in the housing sector.

CAGBC supports the Liberal Party’s commitment to finalize and implement the voluntary, “Made-in-Canada sustainable investment guidelines.” Aiming to be in place by fall 2026, these guidelines will apply to every priority sector, including buildings. CAGBC stands ready to support this important work, recognizing the potential to attract greater investment to Canada’s real estate sector and accelerate the transition to a more sustainable economy.

CAGBC also welcomes the Liberal Party’s proposal to reintroduce a tax incentive for Multi-Unit Residential Building (MURB) developers and eliminate the GST for first-time homebuyers. These measures have the potential to significantly lower barriers to new construction and homeownership.

Equally important is the party’s pledge to introduce a new upskilling and training benefit for mid-career workers. In a fast-changing economic landscape, gaining new skills is essential for job stability and long-term success. This initiative will provide vital support for thousands of Canadians seeking to adapt, grow, and thrive in emerging industries, particularly in the clean energy and green building sectors, where demand for skilled workers continues to rise.

These forward-looking policies are well-aligned with CAGBC’s recently released Unlocking the Value of Green Building policy guide. Offering targeted recommendations for policymakers at all levels, the guide highlights how green buildings can help Canada tackle the housing crisis, drive innovation, and strengthen the economy. The resource emphasizes that investing in sustainable construction is not just an environmental imperative—it is a strategic economic opportunity promoting resilience, competitiveness, and a higher quality of life.
