This week, federal, provincial and local governments have called on Canadians to do what they can to slow the spread of COVID-19 and support the economy. At CaGBC, our main priority is to safeguard the health and wellbeing of staff and members across the country.
Following guidance from the Public Health Agency of Canada, CaGBC staff have been working online since Friday, March 13 and will do so for the foreseeable future. CaGBC has been set up to deliver online services for our members, stakeholders and customers. This means that our team will continue to serve you and the industry at large with the same commitment to customer service you have come to expect. Let me assure you that during this time, all LEED and Zero Carbon project reviews and certifications will continue without interruption.
While we find ourselves in extraordinary circumstances, it is important to remember that this remains the critical decade for climate action. CaGBC will stay focused on the important work ahead as we strive to transition the building sector toward a low-carbon future.
For this reason, CaGBC will continue to deliver valuable industry insights, information, and education as well as work with our members and stakeholders on advancing our common cause – but in a way that respects the current situation.
Changes to in-person events
As such, all in-person events scheduled between now and the end of April will be shifted to online. Some events that work better in-person will be rescheduled to a later date. Event pages are being updated to reflect these changes in a timely manner, but for the latest information, please visit our event registration page. If you have registered for an impacted event, you will be contacted directly, as well as any sponsors or speakers. Finally, you can visit our Terms and Conditions page to review our policies on event cancellations, ticket transfers and refunds.
Changes to Building Lasting Change
Based on the latest available information from health authorities, we have decided to postpone Building Lasting Change (BLC) to later in the year. We are in the process of finalizing a date, with an eye on the current situation. The CaGBC is committed to providing a safe and healthy space for all participants, speakers, attendees, exhibitors and partners at our events. We will continue to be guided by the best advice from the relevant public health agencies and will share the new date in the coming weeks.
For those who have already registered for BLC as a delegate, a speaker, exhibitor or sponsor, you will be contacted directly.
Moving forward together
As the COVID-19 response unfolds, we will keep you informed of CaGBC activities through our website, social media channels, and email. As we move ahead, I believe it is important to remember that this too shall pass, which is best expressed by this quote:
When I interviewed Maya Angelou, she told me to write this sentence on my notepad and to never forget it.
“Every storm runs out of rain.”
I still think of that line to this day — Alex Banayan
Please stay safe and healthy, and contact us if you need additional information. We are here to support you and your business.
