Job Purpose

The Vice President (VP) Market Growth role is responsible for building awareness and increasing demand for CAGBC’s programs, products, services, and market offerings. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), the VP plans, directs, and oversees effective strategies to expand CAGBC’s market presence, enhance brand awareness, develop member, client and key stakeholder relationships, and secure funding and research opportunities.

The VP of Market Growth will be a forward-thinking leader with a strong track record of guiding high-performing and motivated teams, skilled in leveraging market insights to lead strategically, and with a demonstrated capacity to deliver business results. As a senior leadership team member, the VP will ensure coordinated delivery with other senior leaders across business lines.

Responsibilities

Strategic Development and Growth

  • Own and lead the planning, development, and execution of comprehensive strategies to capitalize on targeted new business opportunities and increase product and service adoption, resulting in market expansion, continuous revenue growth and enhanced market presence and brand awareness in line with overall strategic objectives.
  • Oversee and manage business plans for Market Engagement and Project Development and Research teams, including budget and priority setting.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with key clients, members, and sponsors, as well as strategic partnerships and collaborations with industry organizations.
  • Create and drive initiatives through all channels, including comprehensive business development campaigns, to increase the adoption and use of green building certification programs, standards, services, and tools.
  • Enhance member engagement and support through learning and credentialing programs, events and convening to strengthen CAGBC’s presence and influence among industry leaders, peer organizations, and governments.
  • Foster and expand relationships with potential funders, grantors and research partners to support CAGBC’s funding and research objectives.

Client Insights and Stakeholder Relations

  • Engage with and solicit feedback from stakeholders, clients, and members to improve the overall product, service, and delivery experience across all CAGBC offerings. This includes supporting the development of new products and services to meet market needs.
  • Generate business insights and thought leadership that contributes to positive brand awareness and product and service delivery.
  • Cultivate effective business relationships with partner organizations that promote mutual growth and collaboration, including contributing to and administering business agreements necessary to govern such relationships.
  • Act as a dynamic spokesperson for CAGBC and its products and services at relevant industry events and meetings.

Management and Team Development

  • As part of the senior leadership team, develop and implement corporate strategic and operating plans, budgets, and performance reporting, as well as develop and maintain organizational policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Oversee all aspects of Team development and growth, including day-to-day functions related to planning, performance, budgets), human resources, and customer interactions.
  • Provide team members with direction, mentoring, technical guidance, and support for their professional development.
  • Prepare reports and provide recommendations and information to the Board as required.
  • Administer business agreements with key vendors, external contractors, and senior associates.

Required Experience
  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree is required with a preferred focus on business development, marketing, management, sustainability or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in marketing, business development, sales, or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of senior-level leadership in a relevant role.
  • LEED Accredited professional in good standing is an asset.
  • Demonstrated background in sustainability or environment and experience working in the building/real estate industry are assets.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector is an asset.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
  • Travel is required (domestically estimated 25% of the time and occasionally international travel).
Skills
  • Accomplished innovator with strong strategic and business planning skills to develop and deliver programs, products, services, and offerings to the market with measurable results and lasting value.
  • Strong business acumen (negotiation, closing, B2B development) and experience as an effective public speaker.
  • Demonstrated broad knowledge of standards, research, and certifications and their relationship to creating value for the building industry.
  • A proven track record in:
    o Driving growth and market expansion.
    o Achieving business goals and sales targets (financial and programmatic)
    o building, managing, motivating, and empowering highly effective and diverse teams, including the cultivation of future leaders;
    o Leading design and implementation of marketing, funding development and/or sales efforts to scale adoption and create value; and,
    o Establishing and maintaining productive industry partnerships.
  • Direct experience overseeing department-level financial planning, management and analysis, including budget development and resource planning.
